If you are starting a business, you must have already started considering ways to promote it. One of the best ways to build your reputation is social media appearance.  

To connect with more people, be an active member. Create your social presence and your unique identity. People would follow you to see the real you. Therefore, be original. Choose one platform and start building your presence there. People will automatically follow you. 

Having a good social media profile helps you reach more people and expand your audience. It makes connecting with your customers and potential customers very convenient. 

Factors responsible for the success of social media

1. Profile name and username

It might seem very obvious that the profile name, display name, or username should be your name. Well, many people might prefer to use some attractive names as their profile names. 

Try to use your name or your brand’s name. After all, people will know you by that name. Also, remember to use the same name on all social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or any other platform.

Choose the name wisely because sometimes you might not be able to change it.

2. Profile picture

One of the most common questions is Should we put our picture, my product’s picture, or my logo as a profile picture. 

Definitely, if it’s your personal account you should put your picture. If it’s your company’s account the call is tough. Choose a picture as per your company’s goals. 

I would suggest that if your company is quite large you shouldn’t go with anybody’s face but use the logo.  It’s a magnificent idea to cling to the same picture for all social media accounts.

About or bio, every social media platform has a different name but it means the same. Try to be precise and very accurate while writing your bio. Use keywords in the bio.

After looking at your profile picture people usually read your bio to know you. It is a deciding factor for your potential customers to follow you or not. 

Platforms like Instagram or Twitter allow you to put very short sentences in your bio. While platforms like Linkedin let you use many characters to write about yourself. You can personalize this section as per the requirement of the social media site.

4. Profile background or cover image

Many platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn provide an option to upload an enlarged image behind the profile image. Consider this as another opportunity to attract more people as we know visuals are more attractive than plain text.

You can personalize this picture and upload it on various platforms. It allows you to share more content with the visitors. Don’t make it more important than your profile picture. 

5. Profile privacy settings

Once you have set your profile you must check whether your profile is private or public. This will depend upon your goal behind making the account. 

 If you want to keep your information and views limited, keep it a private account. Of course, if it is your company’s account you would want more and more people to see your work. Keep the profile and information public.

6. Profile Promotion

Last but not the least, there is no better way to attract more people than promoting it. You can do so by providing your social media accounts’ links on your company’s website. 

Do link your profiles with each other because you don’t know from where you will get the traffic. Interlinking will help you to send one platform’s traffic to another.

Let’s summarize whatever we read above. The first and foremost step to start social media marketing is to choose a profile name and create an account using that username. 

Pick the most appropriate profile picture and cover image. Write a short and crisp bio. Set your privacy settings and finally, promote your profile.

Don’t forget to personalize your content. Since social media makes an image of you or your brand in people’s minds. Therefore, make sure to invest time to make your profile engaging and captivating.

If you already have an account, you must check whether your profile is as interesting as it should be. If not, then make the necessary changes. Spend time and improve your social media presence. 

Ensure that your account and the content are relevant. Maintain a balance between all your accounts. Be consistent. Connect with as many people as you can. Take feedback and suggestions into consideration. After all, A good business is one that listens to its consumers and fulfills their needs.
